• Essential C,  from Stanford University.  Covers the basics of the C language.

Unix  Environment and Tools

• Dalheimer et al., Running Linux, 4th edition  (Available as an Electronic Book through SFU Library).   If you are new to Unix, read Ch 4.

• Xemacs Reference Card, from Stanford University, a two-page summary of  the Xemacs commands.
  

• Unix Programming Tools,  from Stanford University. Covers the gcc compiler, make, emacs, and summary of shell commands.
  

   Linux Kernel Development

• Daniel Pierre Bovet, Marco Cesati, Understanding the Linux Kernel, 2nd edition, 2003. A bit more detailed book than LKD.

• Debugging Kernel Code (Chapter 4 of  Linux Device Drivers, 2nd Edition, available online).

• Linux Kernel HOWTO pages. Provide detailed information on how to build, compile and install a new kernel.

• Cross-Referencing Linux:  Web-based code navigation of the Linux kernel source code with tools for searching for a specific file, function or identifier.
